Chengdu’s rivers have come a long way in the past few decades, from the sewer of the city to one of the best places to walk and enjoy natural and urban scenery ? It’s been a long road to getting the rivers to where they are now, and the key to keeping them that way is making sure the next generation is engaged in their protection and management
Join me and a group of local kids in Chengdu Urban Rivers Association’s River Camp and let’s see how kids are getting up close and personal with the rivers through experiential learning

A lovely young American girl and a bunch of young Chinese student kids having a fun time on a lovely day of the Fall season, this picture is precious and sadly not too common. What’s happening in the world now makes it more imperative to promote such harmonious environment which is filled with peace and love.

Very happy to see the success of environmental protection of a heavily urbanised area under the pressures of industrialisation and economic growth. Having the next generation take a keen interest in protecting the environment augurs well for the future of the country. Another excellent video! Looks like Chengdu is another must visit place in China.
BS Lee
Love your videos. It was long enough to showcase the river project but yet not too long that one would lose interest. Good pacing, and I love how you engage the locals without a pushy agenda to promote your own narrative. Thank you.. looking forward to your next video.

This proves that no matter how insignificant you may be but still you may impact history in a long run. Cheers for that kid for writing that letter. Ancient city with modern facilities is so a china way.

This video almost moved me into tears. I, as a kid, grew up in Shanghai and lived by a heavily polluted river. The river looked dark and the banks were filled with trash and were infested with rats. Unfortunately, the river was no different from others. Almost all waters in Shanghai smelled, looked dead like sewages and unapproachable. One of my biggest dream back then was to see fishes in these rivers one day in my life time. It was definitely not a small undertaking but a world of changes happened over the few decades and I saw people start to try their fishing poles again the last time I visited my childhood neighborhood in 2014.
It''s so delighting to see the same happened to Chengdu as well. This video reminds me of what we grew out from and how much we should cherish what we have now.
You are the best, Katherine!

Loved seeing the old pictures of the city. Really gives you a good perspective just how far China/Chengdu has come in the past 30 years. Thanks for sharing!

I lived in Chengdu for years and always enjoy your videos. I’m back home in Australia now and hope to return one day! However, why is it only Americans that always say ‘Chungdu’ rather than ‘Chengdu’? It also puzzles my wife, who is Sichuanese.

I've been following your videos for a while now. I thought I would suggest you to talk about the conservation and environmental protection work in China. Great to see this video coming out. I hope there are more on their way. I really want to know if China is "walk the walk".

I grew up just a few hundred meters away from the river near Wuding bridge 五丁橋. My mother told me that she used to swim in the river back in 70s. But by 1990, water was totally black and stank badly. I witnessed the whole project back in 1992 when I was at elementary school age. It was such a spectacular thing to watch excavators edging.
