Left the UK just over 8 years ago and made Vietnam my home. Currently living in Danang, the country, the people and the way of life are all amazing. No intentions to ever return to live in the UK, Vietnam is in my heart now and is home.

Visited Vietnam a bit over a year ago and fell in love. You can FEEL the growth, the struggle, and the insane work ethic and resilience. So much energy here. Very little crime (outside of corruption), lots of laughter and vibes, communal society that dines together on streets, lives together, thus creating social bonds and health. I'm leaving soon, but after a year and a half... man, what a country. I love that it's growing, but hope it retains its incredible character, humility, social cohesion. Love you, Vietnam!
Im from Hanoi, been living here all my life. In 27 years, so much had changed. Back when i was little, having imported goods is seen as Upper Class, now everyone has it. Cars used to be a status symbol, now it's a nuisance. Even quality white rice, which used to be luxury food, is now the standard. Im thankful for what my nation been through and had what it had achieve. With that in mind, the growth is not without its "Growing Pain".
I was born on 1990 in Vietnam to a family of 7, me being the youngest member, and we had fled to America in 1995 with my father only having no more than $200 in his pocket. Growing up I continuously hear about the pain and suffering of Vietnam from my parents & older siblings, which I completely understand now that I'm 34. My father fought with the south and was a prisoner after the war for 7 years for re-education so I can understand his unwavering resentment from the war. As for myself, I'm indifferent towards the war, I cared more that my entire family were still alive and together. Today I'm a proud business owner in America with a deep love for my Vietnamese heritage, enough so that my family is fortunate to be able to visit Vietnam every year for this past decade. With each visit comes with so much change to Vietnam, I can't express how proud I am to be Vietnamese. There is one thing I believe that makes Vietnamese people stand out above all else, and that's RESILIENCE coupled with the ability to operate as ONE FAMILY. In our language we call everyone by brother, sister, auntie, uncle, or bác. Don't even get me started on all of the great healthy food that comes from Vietnam! I continue to pray for Vietnam's healthy growth into this world and I'm so ecstatic to hear so many great countries and companies choosing Vietnam to be a part of their trade agreements. Thank you so much for choosing Vietnam and entrusting in Vietnamese people to propel this world forward to a new golden era! May this be fruitful to all parties involved! Stay blessed out here friends. CHúC M?NG N?M M?I
I am Indonesian, been in Vung Tau to work for few years. One thing I truly respect of Vietnamese : They have one mouth, two ears. The other nations that I had been working in, including my country : They have no ear or only one ear, but many mouths. Love for Vietnamese people.
My grandmom was born in 1940. She's been through the French war, the end of Vietnam as a colonised country, the seperation of North and South, the American war, the unification, the Polpot war, the great farmine, the start of Internet, Sars outbreak 2003, the start of Smartphones, Covid 19, the rise of AI. She's the strongest woman I know. She's the true Vietnamese spirit
I lived in Vietnam from 2019 to 2023, and still do business there. The progress is undeniable and you feel an energy of possibility when you drive through the streets and see economic activity happening all around you. There is a deep spirit of entrepreneurism that the Vietnamese have, which is all the more impressive when you consider that they were under a command economy just 30 years ago. To me, one of the keys to Vietnam's success has been the deregulation of land use. Vietnamese can start a small business in their home by right, meaning they don't have to risk a bunch of capital on overhead, like rent, or go through a bunch of government approvals. Ironically, I felt more free in some ways in com...st Vietnam than I do now living in North America.
A clarification for a lot of people still living in poverty: It is very difficult to define what poverty is in Vietnam. In rural areas, most people are self-sufficient, meaning they produce their own food, own their homes, and the only costs they have to pay are for electricity and water. Therefore, a living standard of $5.5 per day is not low when they don't have to spend on basic expenses. However, when it comes to other issues such as sending their children to university, paying for medical treatments outside of insurance (yes, most Vietnamese people have insurance, those with income are provided by the company, and those with low income or in difficult situations are provided free by the state), it can be a challenge for them.
Been in HCMC for 6 months now. The Vietnamese people are the friendliest I've ever come across and a shining example for everyone on this godforsaken planet. Always smiling and welcoming and it's really safe and cheap for expats. If they manage to clean up the rivers it'd literally be a paradise on earth.
Australian here (irrelevant but i just wanted to show my support), of the many countries I've visited, the Vietnamese were some of the nicest, open, intelligent and creative people I had ever met. From North to South, I'm very happy that they've continued doing well and i love the friends i still have connections with. I can't wait to see them again. Keep up the hard work!
I've been investing in Vietnam since 1995, shortly after the U.S. led trade embargo was lifted. This video is pretty good. Some other salient points: 1) Vietnam had a robust middle class, with exceptionally high levels of home ownership. 2) Vietnamese invest in education, and the educational institutions in Vietnam are improving at a rapid rate. 3) Vietnam has done an outstanding job maintaining strong diplomatic relations with every country and not getting pulled into any polarized geopolitical alliances, while being an active member of multilateral institutions - for example they have been at the forefront of applying the U.N. Sustainable Development Goals. 4) Vietnamese, and their government, work together towards common goals, such as to build a sustainable country - they aren't against each other like we might see in the U.S.; 5) people are very friendly and open minded in Vietnam, making it a pleasure to live here and do business here.
Vietnam feels a bit different to other southeast Asian countries. The people are very proud and determined. It's a beautiful country, too. Got to respect what they've achieved and long may it continue.
You know the irony that I felt after watching a quarter of the video? It is the fact that what shocked the world is the death of some students protesting in the US, not millions of lives being wasted everyday on the battlefield.
I'm a Brit and worked in Hanoi from 2017 - 2022 and had the pleasure to travel around the country and even in that brief time I saw the massive upgrade in infrastructure and expendable income of people in Hanoi alone. I'll always love Vietnam and seeing people around you slowly earn and have more year by year was a joy.

I'm from India - I went on a solo trip to Vietnam and loved the country and its people. You can clearly see the economic improvement happening as well. It's varied landscape also makes it a great place to travel!

Vietnamese are really welcoming. I have been there so many times. The hospitality is outstanding. We have in Germany a big community of Viets, really easy-going and hardworking ones. Unfortunately Vietnam doesn't have the capacity like China, but with their outstanding people, the country that fought so hard for independence, will prosper!
I'm a Malaysian, relocating to Vietnam next month. In the recent years, the professional sports scene in Malaysia has faced worsening financial shortcomings. I've avoided commiting to several institutions due to their shaky financial situations.
The first time I came to Vietnam was 2015. Since then, it's grown massively economic wise. The middle class here has changed a lot, there's so much more spending power (spilling over to sports) where I'm able to grow with my career prospects.
The people: amazing, beautiful and resilient. Everywhere I go, there's a story to be told.
Being an Indonesian never makes me more envious and proud for Vietnam. Whenever I open lixedIn or business related contents, there is at least one post that boasts Vietnam as the new dark horse in South East Asia. With tthe current investment climate in Indonesia, I won't be surprised to see how this country is going to fall behind among its ASEAN peers (especially Vietnam) if we don't make any substantial changes. It is inspiring to see how Vietnam grow and I cannot help but feel jealous of you. Truly, from the bottom of my heart, I'm rooting for you, Vietnam.
Hoping to visit this country someday!
As a foreigner living in Vietnam for nearly a decade and involved in manufacturing and exports, I have been seeing tremendous growth and opportunities in these sectors.
As it is well explained in this documentary, Vietnam is one of the only country in Asia allowing 100% foreign-owned investment for businesses. In key sectors like IT, consulting, import export, retail, F&B, you can basically own a company and do not need any Vietnamese co-owner which create favourable conditions to start.
Indeed, the growing GDP boosts Vietnam appeal, the middle class needs and a lot of products and services to develop or implement.
Didn't regret at my choice of coming to visit around 10 years ago and finally settled in Vietnam for good.
Having visiting Vietnam for work many times. All I can say is there are some brilliant young minds there particularly in tech. And one resounding observation is people there hustle, no matter the time of day or night. They're smart, resourceful and hard working. It's no surprise they are experiencing high growth.
Also the food delicious and healthy. They are doing so much right at the moment.
I started noticing this trend about 10yrs ago when suddenly all architectural publications were swamped with amazing, innovative, local Vietnamese design, not only in housing but also in the commercial sector.
One thing you missed was the requirement for foreign investors to team up with local Vietnamese people... It really sets Vietnam apart from other SE Asian countries by ensuring that foreign interests will have to align with local values.
I've lived in Vietnam for 6 years and it's just so exciting to see things develop so rapidly. I may drive down a road I hadn't in a while, and the infrastructure will have improved so much.
That said, it's not always good. Smaller places like Dalat are growing too, but in the process may lose their charm in the name of development.
He missed out on the Cambodian-Vietnamese war and the following Sino-Vietnamese war in 1979 which increased the global embargo on VIetnam until the mid 90's. Which is only when Vietnam started opening up trade with other countries again.
My uncle and his sister lost 7 family members when americans threw a bomb into their hiding tunnel. My aunt was in the next town and my uncle only survived because the adults sacrificed their bodies to cover him when the granade landed. He was later adopted by an extended member of the kennedy family so his last name is kennedy. They are both thriving today. The horror stories of the time have been past down to me and I cant even begin to imagine the bloodshed those folks experience.
Vietnamese here. First off, it is a great video that capitalize what is going on in Vietnam.
Yes, we are improving and life was much better than how it was back then but also not at that same time. Growth doesn't mean stability tho, unless you are born in well-off family, the chance of you making it to the middle class is really slim.
The social different between poor and rich people is starting to get a lil bit wider and wider. Example, if you are not someone who born in a big city, there is a high chance you won't be recognized and looked down upon. And, yes we still have that "asian" mentality, where perfect is a must-have.
It's great to see more and more YouTubers paying attention to Vietnam. As a Vietnamese person myself, I still have doubts about whether Vietnam can reach the level of other East Asian nations. The country has all the potential it needs to succeed, but what it critically requires at the moment is the right policies and great leadership.
I just visited Hanoi for a week in September 2024. The change for the population is very obvious. Vietnamese are all proud of their country and ready to work hard for an opportunity. You don't see old beat up cars there because they recently have been able to afford them. Vin is on a building spree. Still some properties are vacant but in time they will fill. I agree with the assessment of the future for Vietnam in the video.
Coming from the Philippines, that comparison with Vietnam was brutal and only scratched the surface. The big difference was that unlike Vietnam which suffered major turmoil, the Philippine economy was in way better shape in the 60s and was on par with Malaysia and Thailand, while above Indonesia and Vietnam in GDP per capita. The Philippines, however, has failed to capitalize opportunites for growth through industrialization, is plagued with corruption, red tape, and political dynasties in bed with oligarchs to maintain cartels through protectionism, and now has stagnated compared to its neighbors that we are now behind all of the above mentioned countries when we used to be ahead. Our country is a joke.
